There are a community of Ethiopian Americans, living in the in the Capital District and the surrounding area. This community is represented by the Ethiopian Community Mutual Assistance Association of the Capital District, a non-profit and non-political organization. It was established in 1991. We presently have a membership of about 20 families. The goal of the association is to serve the Ethiopian community and friends in the Capital District. We strive to participate in educational and cultural exchanges in the Capital District and surrounding areas as the need and opportunities arise.
Ethiopia is a country of many tribes and traditions. Members
of our association will dance to songs from two tribes. The members will be
wearing traditional Ethiopian clothes hand made from spun cotton.
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. We will be offering cups
of Ethiopian coffee for sale. We will also offer various snack items.
As Ethiopia has numerous tribes, we will display representative crafts, and clothes from various parts of the country.
